All-terrain vs mud-terrain tires

Most 4x4 owners in Jordan spend the week in Amman traffic and the weekend off the road. The tire you choose decides how both feel.

All-terrain vs mud-terrain tires — Abu Al-Ragheb Tires, Amman

All-terrain (A/T)

  • Tighter tread pattern: quieter and longer-lasting on asphalt
  • Good grip on gravel, packed sand and light rock
  • Comfortable enough for daily driving
  • Best choice for most drivers who go off-road a few times a month

Mud-terrain (M/T)

  • Large, open tread blocks that clear mud and grip rock
  • Tougher sidewalls for sharp stones
  • Louder and wears faster on the highway
  • For drivers who spend serious time on hard trails

Sand in Wadi Rum

On soft sand, tire pressure matters more than tread pattern. Lowering pressure widens the footprint and stops the car digging in. Carry a gauge and a compressor, and re-inflate to the door-sticker pressure before you return to the road.

Common questions

Will A/T tires affect fuel use?

Slightly more than highway tires, much less than mud-terrain.

Can I fit bigger tires on my 4x4?

Within limits. Larger tires can rub and affect the speedometer and gearing. We check fitment first.
