Nitrogen tire inflation

Nitrogen is the same gas that makes up most of the air we breathe, without the oxygen and moisture. Tires filled with it lose pressure more slowly — useful in Jordan's summer heat.

Nitrogen tire inflation — Abu Al-Ragheb Tires, Amman

What nitrogen does

  • Pressure stays closer to the right level for longer, because nitrogen escapes through rubber more slowly than oxygen
  • Dry gas means less pressure swing as the tire heats up on long summer drives
  • Less moisture inside the tire and around the valve and rim

What it doesn't do

Nitrogen does not replace checking your pressure. Every tire still loses some pressure over time, and the right pressure for your car is the one on the sticker inside the driver's door — whether the tire is filled with air or nitrogen. You can top up a nitrogen tire with normal air in an emergency.

Where to get it

Ask for nitrogen at any Abu Al-Ragheb Tires branch when you fit new tires or as a top-up between services.

Common questions

Can I mix air and nitrogen?

Yes. Topping up with air is safe; you only lose some of nitrogen's benefit.

Is nitrogen worth it for a city car?

It helps most for long highway drives, hot summers and drivers who rarely check pressure. A monthly pressure check matters more than the gas.
